The first polio eradication campaign of 2025 is launched by PM Shehbaz.

On Sunday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif gave polio drops to children under five, marking the beginning of a national anti-polio campaign for 2025 (February 3–9).

The prime minister spoke at the inauguration ceremony and reiterated the government’s commitment to eradicate polio in Pakistan.

He claimed that in order to protect the health and future of millions of children nationwide, a nationwide polio vaccination campaign would be launched.

In addition to wishing that the committed teams would reach the remote regions and villages and labor around the clock to eliminate the sickness, he added that these teams would successfully fulfill the enormous national responsibility by giving it their all.

In addition to being a setback, the prime minister stated that a total of 77 polio cases were reported in the nation over the last year, which presented a significant difficulty.

He stated that only one case was reported this year and reaffirmed the determination to end polio at all costs, with the help of international partners and committed teamwork.

The prime minister also expressed the hope that with international coordination and support, the crippling disease in the neighbouring brotherly country Afghanistan would end.

He appreciated all the international partners including WHO, UNICEF, Bill Gates Foundation and the brotherly country Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for their commitment and efforts to the government in its efforts to eliminate polio.

Speaking at the event, PM’s Coordinator for National Health Services, Dr. Mukhtar Bharat, stated that they had not concealed from the world community the number of polio cases that were reported the previous year.

Only one case was documented this year, he said, and the results of all the quarters’ combined efforts were positive.

He also gave the prime minister credit for his oversight, without which they could not have achieved the intended outcomes.

The PM’s main contact for eradicating polio Aysha Raza Farooq asked parents to work together and protect their children from polio, stating that the polio vaccination was a public campaign in which all facets of society must participate.
