The flood warning system of the Met Department has been stolen.

Batteries, an entire float sensor assembly, Arduino boards, GSM boards with mobile SIMS, a 12-volt solar plate, copper cable, and a steel box are among the stolen items, according to the FBI report filed by Usman Shahzad, an electronic engineer with the Pakistan Meteorological Department.

Based on the last automatic SMS received at 12:47 am on July 18, the theft is thought to have happened close to Katarian Bridge around midnight.

Once the meteorological department’s automated water level gauge system for tracking floods in Rawalpindi was stolen, the appropriate authorities began installing the new apparatus.

While this is going on, the drain will continue to be monitored with a manual gauge. The system is anticipated to be entirely restored by Tuesday.

In order for responsible officials to take timely action to reduce flood damages, the automatic water level gauging system is essential in providing them with real-time reports on Leh Nullah’s water level.

This system provides vital data for flood warnings and forecasts and is used by the Pakistan Meteorological Department.
