LHC complains about the loosening of market hours in the face of anti-smog regulations.
The Lahore High Court (LHC) voiced its disapproval on Friday of the easing of market scheduling until 10 p.m. in light of anti-smog measures.
The suit seeking smog prevention measures was heard by Justice Shahid Karim on Friday.
“How can the market timings be altered without filing a report in court?” Justice Karim questioned the advocate general.
According to the court, it appeared that the mafia’s pressure was the reason behind the shift in the markets’ schedule.
“It’s a very important issue, and we cannot show any negligence in this regard,” the judge said.
The advocate general promised the court that the matter would be resolved.
The court ordered the relevant officials to issue a tag following the clearance of a vehicle’s fitness certificate.
According to the court, the Safe Cities Authority should be consulted when issuing the fitness certificate sticker.
Justice Shahid Karim also directed the officials to check the motorcycles and mini-loaders to mitigate the effects of smog in the city.
Additionally, he gave the officials instructions to capture the waste burners.
The court ordered the LDA to set aside a certain amount of space for the city’s fruit and vegetable sellers in the interim.
